For over 50 years, the Durham Rescue Mission has helped feed the hungry, offer hope, and restore lives across Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill. Together, we’ve stood strong in compassion, meeting urgent needs and changing countless lives.
“ When our neighbors in need come to us seeking shelter from the storms of life … I want them to know that people here love you, they care about you, and that you may have been homeless, but now you’re home.” — Ernie Mills Jr.
The truth is, more of our Triangle neighbors are finding themselves caught in a cycle of poverty and despair, and the rising cost of living only tightens its grip.
Recent reports show that homelessness in Durham increased by 10% this year, and the number of our neighbors living without shelter has tragically risen.
This is not just a statistic. It’s a mother who doesn’t know where her children will sleep tonight. It’s a man who has lost his job and, with it, his sense of purpose. It’s a child whose bedtime routine happens in the backseat of a sedan.
But restoration is possible.
Your gift provides more than a meal. It provides a place to call home and the safety and support needed to start over.
Shelter for Men, Women, and Children: Since 1974, the Durham Rescue Mission has helped mend shattered lives by providing men, women, and children with safe shelter, food, clothing, vocational training, Biblical counseling, and employment assistance.
The Victory Program: Our six-month holistic program is designed to help people overcome a lifestyle of addictions and return to the workforce, investing back into the community.
Operation Warm & Cold Shelter: Our staff canvasses the streets of the Triangle in extreme warm or cold weather, offering refreshments and free transportation to our men’s and women’s shelters.
“There’s no doubt that the Durham Rescue Mission had a major impact over the last 50 years, and has had even more of an impact as time goes on. It seems like their focus really hones in on the needs because needs change. Things change over time.” — Steve Couch
