Durham Rescue Mission (“Durham Rescue Mission”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how we collect, use, protect, and disclose your Personal Information when you use our websites, durhamrescuemission.org and drmthriftstore.org (“Sites”), donate, use our services, and otherwise interact with us (herein referred to together as “Services”). describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly
or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household. Personal Information does not include

We may collect the following Personal Information when you use the Services:

philosophical beliefs, and medical conditions.
Commercial Information: such as credit card number, bank account number, and routing
number.
Education Information: such as level of education completed.
Employment Information: such as employment history, ministry history, professional skills,
and suitability for volunteer or employment roles.
Internet or Other Electronic Network Activity Information: such as information regarding
your interaction with our Sites or advertisements, links you use or web pages you visit while
visiting our Sites, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), cookies, and mobile device
information including device identifier or other information.

We collect Personal Information (1) that you provide to us, (2) that we collect automatically
using technology, and (3) from third party sources as described below.
 
Directly From You
We collect your Personal Information directly from you when you access, use, or otherwise interact with the Services, such as when you make a donation or stay at one of our shelters.
 
From You Automatically Using Technology
We collect Personal Information from you automatically when you use our Sites, such as your IP
address, mobile carrier, and other device identifiers that are automatically assigned to your
computer or device when you access the Internet. See the “Cookies and Other Tracking
Technologies” section below for more information.
 
From Third Parties
We may receive Personal Information about you from third parties, including from:
 
  • Service Providers: We may receive Personal Information about you from third parties
    that we use to help us provide you with the Services.
  • Analytics Providers: We may receive Personal Information related to your use of our Sites from third party analytics providers. For more information, see the “Cookies and

  • Other Third Parties: We may receive Personal Information about you from other third
    parties, such as individuals who refer you to us or assist you in signing up for or receiving

    To provide and maintain the Services: including to administer surveys and feedback,
    create reports, and perform analytics, and improve, develop, and analyze our Sites and
    Services.
  • To provide marketing correspondence and otherwise communicate with you:
    including communications concerning volunteer activities, participation in our programs,
    providing you with our newsletter, and communicating with you concerning donations.
  • For operational purposes: including but not limited to: (1) carrying out our obligations
    and enforcing our rights arising from any contracts we have entered into, including,
    without limitation, any contracts between you and us; (2) conducting statistical or
    demographic analysis; (3) customizing your experience with our Services; (4) assessing
    the success of our communication efforts and (5) other business purposes permitted under
    applicable law.
  • For law enforcement and other legal purposes: including but not limited to (1) complying with legal and regulatory requirements, (2) satisfying contractual obligations, (3) cooperating with law enforcement or other governmental agencies for purposes of investigations, public safety, or matters of public importance when we reasonably believe we are required to do so or that disclosure of Personal Information is necessary or appropriate to protect the public interest, (4) protecting and defending our rights and property or the rights of third parties, (5) defending against legal actions, or (6) to prevent suspected fraud, threats to our network, or other illegal activities.
  • Other purposes: such as our internal business purposes or those you authorize or explicitly direct.

HOW WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We may share any of the categories of Personal Information described above with service
providers and other third parties for business purposes, at your direction, or as required or
permitted by law, including with:

  • Service Providers: We may share Personal Information with vendors to help us host,
    manage, and provide our Sites and Services, improve the content and functionality of our
    Sites and Services, perform data and statistical analysis, troubleshoot problems, ensure
    the security of our Sites and Services, and to provide operational support related to our
    Services.
  • Payment and Billing Processors: In addition to the service providers above, we may
    share Personal Information with payment processing and billing service providers.
  • Parties to Business Transactions: In the event of an anticipated or actual merger or
    acquisition, bankruptcy, or other sale of all or a portion of our assets, we may transfer or
    allow third parties to use information owned or controlled by us, including Personal
    Information. We reserve the right, in connection with these types of transactions, to
    transfer, share, assign, or sell your Personal Information we have collected to third parties
    or to authorize such third parties to use any such Personal Information, including for due
    diligence, as part of any of the transactions described in this paragraph. Any Personal
    Information you submit or that is collected after this type of transfer may be subject to a
    new privacy policy maintained by the successor entity.
  • Government, Regulators, Law Enforcement, and Other Parties for Legal Reasons:
    We may share your Personal Information where we reasonably believe such action is
    necessary to enforce and comply with the law, to protect our property or legal rights, for
    the safety of the public or any person, to prevent harm, and to protect the security and
    integrity of our Sites and Services and any equipment used to make the Sites and Services
    available.
  • Professional Advisors: We may share Personal Information with our professional
    advisors such as our attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, and business advisors in
    their capacity as advisors.
  • Marketing and Advertising Partners: We may share Personal Information with third party online and other marketing and advertising partners or permit these partners to collect Personal Information from you directly on our Sites to personalize online advertising.
  • Other Third Parties and At Your Direction: We may also share your Personal Information with other third parties when you explicitly direct us to do so.

DONATIONS

The Durham Rescue Mission is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our financial, gift-in-
kind, and event supporters, whether this support is provided online, through mail, or by any other
means. We are dedicated to securing your financial information and have implemented both
physical and digital measures to prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or alteration of personal and
financial identifying information.
When you donate through the Sites, payments submitted via credit card are managed by our
third-party service provider Stripe. You authorize Stripe to store and use the card as a payment
method for donations made with us. All payment information you provide must be truthful and
accurate. Providing any untruthful or inaccurate information is a breach of these Terms and may
result in cancellation of your donation. Prior to accepting a donation, we may also request
additional information from you. Verification of information may be required prior to the
acknowledgment or completion of any donation. We will attempt to contact you if additional
information is required to process your donation. Please see Stripe’s Privacy Policy for more
information regarding how they process your Personal Information.
 

HOW LONG WE RETAIN YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We retain your Personal Information in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory
requirements and for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, and
to fulfill the business purposes outlined in this Policy.
 

HOW DO WE USE DEIDENTIFIED OR AGGREGATED DATA

We may create, use, disclose, share, license, or transfer aggregate data to create de-identified,
aggregated data about users of the Services. This data describes users as a group but cannot be used
to identify you as an individual. We may use aggregated data to understand users’ needs, determine
user demographics and usage patterns, identify the types of programs and services we can provide,
and improve and enrich our programs, Services, and the Sites. We will not re-identify that Personal
Information and other information once aggregated.
 

COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

We use cookies, web beacons, pixel tags, and/or other tracking technologies (collectively,
Cookies”) on our Sites. A Cookie is a small text file that our Sites save onto your computer or
device when you visit the Sites that provides us certain information about your activities.

Cookies allow the Sites to remember your actions and preferences and recognize you or your
browser, along with information you provided.
We use these tools to make our Sites function properly, provide personalized experiences, tailor
our interactions with you, improve our marketing efforts, provide us with insights about the
usage and effectiveness of our Sites, and to help us improve our Sites and Services.
We may use Cookies to help tailor advertisements or offers to your interests. We may allow
third-party advertising companies to collect Personal Information about your activity on our Sites
through cookies or other tracking technologies and combine that Personal Information with
Personal Information they collect on other unrelated sites, which advertising companies may use
to provide you with relevant, targeted advertising. We do not knowingly share Personal
Information of users under the age of sixteen.
Analytics
Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics and similar technologies to collect and process
Personal Information about your use of the Sites. Google sets Cookies on your browser or
device, and then your web browser will automatically send information to Google. Google uses
this information to provide us with reports that we use to better understand and measure how

Piwik Pro Analytics Suite: We use Piwik PRO Analytics Suite on our Sites. The collected
information may include a visitor’s IP address, operating system, browser ID, browsing activity,

Targeted Advertising
We use service providers and other third parties to serve you customized email, SMS, and internet-
based advertisements. Those ad networks use cookies and other tracking technologies to serve ads
based on your prior visits to our Sites. These ad networks may place and store cookies on the
devices you use to access our Services and collect information, including your browsing behavior,
referring websites, and your response to advertisements.
Facebook Connect and Custom Audience: We use Facebook Connect and Custom Audience by
Meta to track and analyze users and advertise to our users through Facebook and Meta’s affiliated

Google Ads: We use Google Ads, an online advertising service provided by Google to serve
targeted advertisements on our behalf across the Internet. To opt out of remarketing advertising
provided through Google, to customize your ad preferences, or to limit Google’s collection or use
of this information, visit Google’s Safety Center, available at https://safety.google, and Google’s
Ad Settings, available at https://myadcenter.google.com. Opting out will not affect your use of the
Platform.
 

SOCIAL MEDIA, LINKS, VIDEOS, AND EXTERNAL SITES

Links to other entities’ websites may be provided on our Sites for your convenience. If you
choose to go to these external websites, you will be subject to their privacy practices. Durham
Rescue Mission is not responsible for the privacy practices of any external parties or websites.
We encourage you to be aware when you leave our Sites and to read the privacy policy of every
website you visit.
Our Sites contain videos and embedded content, including visible content and/or scripts
embedded in the Sites’ code, or other functionality that allows for interaction with third-party
content or applications. Our service provider and other third parties may collect data about how
you interact with such content and other Personal Information, including what videos you watch.
We encourage you to review the applicable privacy policy for any such third-party prior to
engaging with such functionalities.
We are active on social media, potentially including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn,
and X (together, “Social Media”). Anything you post on Social Media is public information and
will not be treated confidentially. We may post (or re-post) on the Sites and our Social Media
pages any comments or content that you post on our Social Media pages. The privacy policies
and terms of the applicable Social Media providers govern your use of Social Media.
We use the YouTube application programming interface (API) services to allow you to access
YouTube content from our Services. Your use of YouTube is governed by YouTube’s Terms of
Services and Privacy Policy. We encourage you to read the YouTube Terms of Service and

EMAIL MARKETING

You can opt out of marketing and other promotional email communications you receive from us
by following the unsubscribe instructions contained in those email messages. It may take us a
few days to process your request. During that processing period, you may receive additional
marketing and other promotional emails from us. Please note, opting out of these
communications will only apply to marketing and other promotional emails and will not apply to
any email or other communications we send to you for non-marketing purposes, including, but
not limited to, emails and other communications about your interactions with our Sites.
 

TEXT MESSAGE COMMUNICATIONS

By providing your mobile number, you agree to receive text messages from us about updates,
opportunities, and other relevant information. Message frequency may vary. Message and data

Protecting your Personal Information is important to us. We use commercially reasonable
safeguards to maintain the security of Personal Information we collect and use, and we limit

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. Our Sites are not intended or designed to
attract children under age 13. We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose to any third-party
Personal Information from or about children under the age of 13 without parental or legal
guardian consent.
If you are a parent or a legal guardian of someone under the age of 13 and discover that your
child has submitted Personal Information to us without your consent, please contact us at
