The Durham Rescue Mission hosted their Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner feeding 700 homeless, hungry, and needy men, women, and children of the Triangle. This event is held outdoors at the Mission’s Men’s Campus located at 1201 East Main Street.
This event is a tremendous help for the needy as they received a free, hot meal, free clothing and winter coats, and free bags of groceries. In addition, there were lots of fun activities for the children, including an inflatable slide.
The Mission’s CEO, Ernie Mills, said “I am so thankful to see how our community comes together to provide this hot meal for those who are less fortunate. 425 volunteers have given of their time to ensure the neediest in our community are not forgotten on this special day. This event has brought together the “have’s” and the “have not’s” for a great meal and time of fellowship. Times are tough, but we all still have much to be thankful for!
Today at the Durham Rescue Mission:
- 700 needy in attendance
- +800 plates of traditional Thanksgiving meals, Turkey with all the trimmings
- +3,000 articles of clothing, including warm coats
- 500 bags of groceries for those in attendance
- 263 Meals on Wheels served
- In all 1,465 volunteers, staff, residents, and needy of the Triangle attended .
