On June 14th Karen Ramsey and her son, Randall, took the final steps in preparation for moving into their new home. Karen and Randall’s new Habitat for Humanity home was dedicated and volunteers assisted in landscaping her yard.
On June 30th, Karen and Randall will move in to their completed home.
It has been a long, hard journey for Karen and Randall. Karen, once addicted to drugs, alienated herself from family and friends, even giving up custody of her son. Then she came to the Durham Rescue Mission.
Karen graduated from the Victory Program at the Durham Rescue Mission, she regained custody of her son, and she found temporary work when former County Manager, Mike Ruffin, hired her as a receptionist for the Durham County Government Office. Today, she has a permanent job with the Durham County Tax Office.
Karen and Randall are thankful for the help they have received from the Durham Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity, and the Durham community.
