Since the Lord called me in 1995 to serve at the Durham Rescue Mission, I have witnessed tremendous growth, countless blessings, and—many would say—miracles. Because of your prayers, generosity, and steadfast support, we’ve seen lives transformed and hope restored. I count it a great privilege to serve in this ministry, and I thank God for faithful friends like you who make this work possible.
Today, I come to you with a heartfelt request. We are preparing for a bold and much-needed expansion—a Career Development Center that will unite our counseling, job training, academic instruction, and spiritual development under one roof. This Center will allow us to serve clients more holistically, equipping them with practical skills and spiritual direction to pursue stable, independent lives. But to move forward, we need your help.
The property for this project has already been purchased, but we must secure rezoning approval from the Durham City Council to build the facility. That’s why I’m asking you to contact your City Council Member and voice your support for:
• The rezoning request submitted by the Durham Rescue Mission
• The Career Development Center project
• The ongoing, life-changing work of the Durham Rescue Mission
In just the past three years, our client population has grown by 40%—not because more people are becoming homeless, but because it has become increasingly difficult to escape poverty. Affordable housing, food, and basic necessities are out of reach for many. Through this new Center, we aim to equip our clients with in-demand skills—such as coding, CDL licensing, logistics, appliance repair, and culinary arts—so they can build meaningful careers and break free from generational cycles of hardship.
The impact of this project is immense. By consolidating services, we will reduce transportation barriers and our carbon footprint, improve program coordination, and foster deeper collaboration among staff. Most importantly, this Center will offer hope and direction to those who need it most. We estimate its creation would increase the value of services we provide to the community by over $3 million annually.
We have made it simple for you to send a message to your Durham City Council representative through this form. Would you prayerfully consider showing your support in this way? Your voice can help turn this vision into reality, allowing us to serve more people, more effectively, and with greater eternal impact.
With sincere gratitude,
